Abstract

BOHORQUEZ-PEREIRA, Giovanni. Reflection on the practice of the journalist and social communicator facing this profession's new challenges and scenarios. Rev. aportes de la comunicación [online]. 2013, n.16, pp.48-56. ISSN 2306-8671.

During the 21st Century's first decade, both information and communication have achieved a technological progress allowing all citizens to directly access knowledge for free. It is also stated that what has happened must be assumed as an option delivered today by Knowledge Society to media professionals, to be utilized in social change processes. From the basic function of producing and spreading information, such professionals must master and apply media convergence today. Concerning operational and logistic activities inside communication departments in corporations, social communication and journalism professionals must be strategists in communication and advising social processes: they are required to be public leaders today. This article reviews these issues and presents how considers what can be contributed to strengthen these scenarios.
