Resumen

PEREZ MORALES, Fabiana Marcela  y  MENECES HEREDIA, Gabriel. Perceptions of high school students regarding responsible pet ownership, pre and post COVID in Sucre, Bolivia. Rev. Cien. Tec. In. [online]. 2023, vol.21, n.28, pp.59-70. ISSN 2225-8787.  https://doi.org/10.56469/rcti.v21i28.941.

Pets positively affect humans' physical and emotional health, as well as their social aspects. Still, when their ownership is adverse, it integrates risks in zoonoses, attacks, and contamination due to urban fecalism. Meanwhile, education in animal ownership is a prevention and mitigation strategy. The study describes the perception of high school students on responsible pet ownership within the framework of the Participatory Research Action project "Responsible Animal Ownership in the City of Sucre", developed in 2019 (pre COVID-19) and 2022 (Post COVID-19) in two educational units with secondary school students from 15 to 17 years old. For this, a self-completion questionnaire was implemented on the perception of necessary aspects of having a pet within responsible animal ownership. The results show that the participants in both periods know aspects of responsible pet ownership, but topics on dedication time, knowledge about pet breeds, feces collection, moving, and the pet's coexistence with the family should be prioritized in future workshops.
