The emergency in Peru due to the global pandemic COVID-19 severely affected economic activities and the primary and higher education system. As a solution to this crisis, the Peruvian State has proposed the implementation of the virtual education system. However, this system has inconveniences for young university students accessing the virtual classroom because they were in distant districts and did not have an adequate internet connection. The aim of the work was to analyze the situation of access to essential services and equipment from the home of origin of young university students from the Puno region during COVID-19. As a tool, the ENAHO household survey was used for 551 university youths enrolled. The results showed that COVID-19 generated an expected loss of 50.2% in the percentage of approved in the regular cycle due to limited internet access since 51.7% of young people maintain their home of origin outside Puno, and 56.42% do not have this service. The results also showed that 100% of young people have the electricity service in their home and have more than 50.1% of the water and drainage services within their home. Then, the work contributes to the knowledge of the situation of university virtual education and is of help to the responsible who offer the university education service.
