Resumen

CASTRO TORRES, Mario Eduardo; VARGAS PIEROLA, Pablo Marcelo; PINTO NAVIA, Carlos Fernando  y  ALVARADO, Rubén. Bonding social capital and academic stress in university students. Rev. Cien. Tec. In. [online]. 2022, vol.20, n.26, pp.119-136. ISSN 2225-8787.  https://doi.org/10.56469/rcti.vol20n26.710.

It is well known that academic stress (AS) is problem with a high incidence in university students, however, there are few studies on the subject. This paper aims at determining a correlation between binding social capital (BSC) and its dimensions (network size, trust, reciprocity, and resources ownership) with psychological symptoms (PSy) of AD, determining also its strength and importance. Method: it presents the evaluation for correlation between dimensions of BSC with PSy of AD in a sample of 150 volunteer university students. It also presents the usage of Spearman’s coefficient (rs) for establishing the correlation, the use of Pearson’s Chi- square test for independence (X2) in terms of determining the difference between groups and residual analysis (Rü) for showing direction and significance. Results: A third of students present a high frequency of PSy while the fourth part has got a regular frequency. The BSC has got a negative correlation, weak but important with PSy (rs(123)= -.18, p= .040), as well as trust (rs(123)= .-19, p= .031). In addition, it was identified a negative, significant and strong correlation between trust dimension of BSC and the PSy 20 [anxiety, anguish or desperation of EA (X2= 4.83; gl= 1; p= .028; V de Cramer= 0.21). Discussion: the effect size of the correlations show that there are other variables involved between social capital and EA relation, which implies mediation. There is the need of improving explanation of relation between BSC and EA including more variables in a more complex mode of analysis in a future.
