TORRES LINARES, Carla Fátima  y  VALLE DE CARVALHO, Matheus. THE ACADEMY AND ITS CONTRIBUTIONS ON SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT IN BOLIVIA: GAPS AND PROSPECTS OF A RESEARCH FIELD. Rev. Cien. Tec. In. [online]. 2022, vol.20, n.25, pp.117-139. ISSN 2225-8787.

This paper is part of an effort to support the construction of knowledge in the field of waste management in Bolivia. Universities in our country have not yet paid necessary attention to this subject. Although some schools and faculties did it by analyzing it in the last years, analysis approaches are in general limited. This lack of research could explain at least in part the underdevelopment of the sector. Waste management in most Bolivian municipalities is deficient, only few of them count on sustainable strategies for reuse, treatment and final disposal of them. Drawing from a conceptual proposal of what is the field of waste management, this paper discusses university research trends with two different and complementary objectives: (a) finding the main subjects and theoretical approaches used highlighting the most important findings, and (b) identifying gaps and loopholes that could provide matter for future research that might be of interest for both academia, public actors and society. The methodology consists of exploring internet search tools for academic papers published in Bolivia and abroad about waste management, followed by a systematic analysis of results. Examining the academic and scientific production is intended as a contribution to the improvement of knowledge in waste management field and for the University as a locus for an integral education and qualification of citizens. Moreover, it helps to shed light on the state of the Bolivian human capital

Palabras clave : Academic production; Bolivia; solid waste; systematic analysis.
