Abstract

CUADROS RIVERA, Virginia del Rosario. CARE OF OLDER ADULTS FROM APSYCHOSOCIAL APPROACH: APPROACHES TO OLDER ADULTS CARE PROGRAM IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF SUCRE IN 2019. Rev. Cien. Tec. In. [online]. 2022, vol.20, n.25, pp.37-54. ISSN 2225-8787.

We start from the approach and analysis of aging and agedness which, in addition to affecting the biological health state, involves repercussions at the psychosocial level. During the last decades in Bolivia, older adult's population has increased, representing 9.5% in 2020; and by 2030 it is expected to reach 11.5% of the population. These figures lead us to rethink beyond the health model centered on biomedicine, which it's currently targeted to treat physiological decline starting from a predominantly healthcare intervention. The main goal is to think over on the need of assuming a psychosocial paradigm that facilitates comprehensive care and improves the quality of life of older adults. The methodology includes the theoretical study of collective health and active aging. This allows to analyze the psychosocial factors of older adults during experiences in primary health care services applying a speech analysis in its textual, symbolic and behavioral dimensions through focus groups. Also the analysis of surveys from a 178 participants sample from Sucre municipality's program for the older adults. The results show that primary care is mainly targeted to medical conditions, where pain is the health team's main concern. Older adults consider that they are checked with haste and low concern for the inattention to psychosocial aspects. The need for a change in health policies is evident in terms of achieving care services appropriate to age, which promote benefits from a comprehensive, preventive and multidisciplinary approach with the purpose of solving social, psychological and biomedical needs of older adults
