CHOQUE ARANDO, Ivonne y GUTIERREZ GARCIA, Andrea. BARRIERS TO ESCAPING GENDER VIOLENCE IN RELATIONSHIPS: PERCEPTION FROM WOMEN'S OMBUDSMEN. Rev. Cien. Tec. In. [online]. 2021, vol.19, n.24, pp.71-86. ISSN 2225-8787.
Abstract This article characterizes hindering factors against women when escaping violence in partner relationships, based on the experience of technical staff (lawyers, psychologists and social workers) of ombudsmen for women (public and prívate) of the city of Sucre (Bolivia). This study followed a qualitative methodology, specifically, the in-depth interview technique to collect information, and speeches were analyzed using the NVIV012 program. Barriere, as perceived by key informants, can be classified into 4 categories, namely: a) The patriarchal system that, in its institutions, practices structural violence and reproduces forms of discrimination and re-victimization against women who report acts of violence; b) Machismo, which is present in all forms of relationships and naturalizes violence; c) The economic and emotional dependence that women have towards their aggressors and d) Lack of family and social networks for effective support to women who live in violence situations. All of these factors are obstacles encountered towards women in the effort to escaping abusive relationship, and contribute to perpetúate a culture of inequity and naturalization of violence.
