Abstract

QUEVEDO, Winston. Somatic cell count (rsc) as an indicator in the resistance of bovine mastitis. Rev. Cien. Tec. In. [online]. 2018, vol.16, n.17, pp.1001-1012. ISSN 2225-8787.

Abstract The breeding of dairy cattle is closely related to the prevalence of diseases that affect both the animals and the community. The most common and persistent of them is bovine mastitis, which is characterized by inflammation of the udder, usually in response to bacterial agents; that brings as consequence, less longevity of the cows, problems of fertility, diminution of the quantity and quality of production, and strong economic losses. Zootechnology has made available to producers, new tools to combat this disease, being the most effective and durable, genetic selection (somatic cell count (RSC), as an indicator in the resistance of Bovine Mastitis). This article, based on a qualitative methodologies, explores, through a descriptive / analytical analysis, a review of the most relevant scientific literature, related to the genetic selection for resistance to mastitis in bovines. Throwing as main conclusions that, the ability to suffer or not mastitis can be transmitted from one generation to another, that the most suitable resource to determine the presence or absence of mastitis is the somatic cell count; in which case, it is imperative to optimize the management, hygiene and milking routines; similarly, the periodic record of health and productivity indicators, in order to obtain the selection of more fruitful, healthy and resistant to mastitis, parents of the next generation.
