FLORES, Danitza  y  GUZMAN, Felicia. Basic conditioning factors in self-care in patients with blood hypertension of Santa Barbara Hospital. Rev. Cien. Tec. In. [online]. 2018, vol.16, n.17, pp.991-1000. ISSN 2225-8787.

Abstract Hypertension (HBP) is a public health problem throughout the world, causing many problems for the affected individual as it alters their daily life, to which physical disability is added, costs for the individual and institutions of health. Therefore, the control of arterial hypertension is a complex process whose objective is the prevention, early detection and timely treatment to avoid the complications of this disease; This is where the promotion of self-care through education with Dorotea Orem's self-care model will allow the development of behaviors that not only enhance health, but also contribute to the formation of a responsible and productive individual. This is why nursing professionals play an important role, since they can identify those factors that can affect or influence self-care and based on this, they can structure a series of nursing interventions that can contribute to self-care in this problem. The present study is focused on identifying the basic conditioning factors associated with self-care in patients hospitalized with hypertension. The methodology followed corresponds to a descriptive study, with a transversal design. The sample involves51 patients with arterial hypertension (HTA) interned in the Geriatrics and Internal Medicine service of the Santa Bárbara Hospital in Sucre city. The data collection was carried out with the questionnaire structured in two sections, the second called the questionnaire to identify self-care skills developed by Achury and collaborators (Cronbach's alpha = 0.76) applied by the researcher. The results indicate that there is a low self-care capacity in more than 50% of the population under study, about the factors conditioning age, basic pathology, consumption of vegetables, fruits, add salt to their food and education received by staff of nursing on a daily basis are the variables that are significantly associated with low self-care capacity.

Palabras clave : Self - care capacity; Basic conditioning factors; High blood pressure.
