Abstract The research on the development of research skills in the undergraduate students of the architectural career of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the Technical University of Oruro was carried out in the city of the same name in the framework of the Doctorate in Sciences of The Education of the Center for Postgraduate Studies and Research of the University Mayor Real y Pontificia San Francisco Xavier de Chuquisaca. The present article reports results of the field study obtained from two units of analysis: the current situation of the development of research capacities in teachers and students and the approaches, currents and predominant theories on research within the field of architecture. The main results indicate a low development of research capacities in both teachers and students. However, there are important advances in shared visions regarding the approach, trends and theories of research that are most pertinent and suitable for careers such as architecture.
