FREUDENTHAL TICHAUER, Erika. De-construction, re-construction, co-construction ofcareer development in a non-Western context. Revista de Psicologia [online]. 2017, n.17, pp.105-116. ISSN 2223-3032.
ABSTRACT The purpose of this article is to induce Mark Savickas's (2013) -currently useful and relevant career-guidance approach. Professionals and counsellors who offer this service in non-Western contexts are invited to incorporate the narrative interview and other innovative strategies into their practices, not limited to the application of psy-chometric tests and inventories. Although discourse in the first decade of the 21st century advocated forthe development of endogenous models, it is unnecessary to elaborate theories for each particular ethnic community or group with special con-ditions, since they become isolated, very specific, not generalizable and difficult to replicate constructs. Rather, it is currently proposed that counsellors in Career Gui-dance be thoughtful, flexible, and creative agents in deconstructing, reconstructing and co-constructing theories elaborated in other contexts, adapting them in their professional practice with different groups of clients, in an appropriate, timely and sensitive manner. In Bolivia, with a cultural diversity that has heterogeneous percep-tions of work, career and social function, and with a depressed, hostile and non-sus-tainable labourmarket, supporting peoplewith a narrative-construction of career has significant potential in the development of identity and the project of life.
