Abstract

As part of the practical training in the field of Psychophysiology during the first semester 2008, students learned the theoretical concepts of the physiology of sleep, while designing a survey that was validated by the students themselves, their families and the community. The self-applied survey was conducted on the habits, problems and disorders associated with sleep. We collected 760 respondents. Data on nocturnal enuresis, occurrence of nightmares, insomnia and their types, sleep interference with coffee, the full moon, noise and light orthe need for sleep rituals; we also investigated occurrence of FISIOLOGIA parasomnias such as sleepwalking, sleep jerks, nocturnal terrors, hyper somnolence, fatigue, bad dreams, sleep apnea and low concentration with or without depressive syndrome. The study explored these variables according to age groups and sex, and the association of sleep syndromes will be discussed according to the relationship with the interviewerto determine indirectly, if there is a possible hereditary component patterns and sleep disorders genetic basis.
