Abstract

GARVIZU AUZA, Vidfa Carolina  and  VARGAS MENDIETA, Susana Gloria. The Presence of Women in Engineering and Technology at Bolivian Universities: Challenges and Perspectives. Rev Cien Cult [online]. 2025, vol.29, n.54, pp.127-135.  Epub June 30, 2025. ISSN 2077-3323.  https://doi.org/10.35319/rcyc.2025541376.

STEM education, particularly in engineering and technology, is crucial for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 5. Historically, women have been underrepresented in these fields, a situation that persists in Bolivia despite the increase in female university enrollment. This article analyzes the historical evolution of the gender gap in Bolivian universities, identifies factors contributing to its persistence, and examines initiatives that could foster a cultural shift toward gender equity in universities and society in the medium and long term.

Keywords : Higher education; STEM; Gender equity; SDGs; Bolivia.
