A photograph of Bolivian intellectuals from the early 20th century provides an opportunity to analyze the social context and the construction of a national culture during the first three decades of the century. These learned individuals operated both in state spheres and within exclusive circles of associations and foundations. They were educators, diplomats, writers, and journalists who formed an intellectual and academic elite, responsible for shaping a dominant aesthetic and cultural framework in the country.
