This article analyzes the pictorial production of Cecilio Guzmán de Rojas during the Chaco War. In this regard, we argue that his work not only served as a means to ‘represent’ the war but also as a way to actively produce the spatiality of the conflict. In the work of the Potosí painter, this spatiality was shaped alongside a particular study of the material environment of the Chaco, as well as the expression of a suffering pathos, manifested in the faces and bodies of the combatants.
