Abstract

MUDRIK, Armando. “According to the Skilled Farmers”: the Perspective of the Settlers of Moisés Ville in the Historic Rabbinic Discussion over the Rain Request in Argentina (1915-1917). Rev Cien Cult [online]. 2024, vol.28, n.52, pp.167-195.  Epub June 30, 2024. ISSN 2077-3323.  https://doi.org/10.35319/rcyc.2024521309.

Jewish religious groups (Sephardic and Ashkenazic) settled in different con- texts in Argentina during the consolidation of the Nation State. This migratory process would bring about a series of re-significations and re-elaborations of religious practices and conceptions linked to environmental phenomena, such as the prayer for rain. In this context, between 1915 and 1917 a relevant rabbinical discussion took place on this issue. Our approach to this discussion allows us to reconstruct perceptions of relationships between sky and earth, among Jewish migrants situated within the framework of the development of a productive system and in a particular environmental context.

Keywords : Rabbinical discussion; Prayer for rain; Jewish settlers; Jewish mi- grants; Ethnoastronomy; Argentina.
