Abstract

AVIDANO, Anna. Becoming a Community to Resist Dispossession: the Case of the No Tav Movement of the Susa Valley in Northern Italy. Rev Cien Cult [online]. 2024, vol.28, n.52, pp.39-62.  Epub June 30, 2024. ISSN 2077-3323.  https://doi.org/10.35319/rcyc.2024521306.

This article is based on an ethnography of the No Tav movement, which has been resisting the imposition of a mega-project in the Susa Valley for more than three decades. It shows how, far from demobilising the No Tav struggle, the repressive strategies used by the state to impose the project have consolidated it and encouraged the formation of a “community” of resistance. It then presents the main elements that characterize this community and its practices of production and reproduction, highlighting the centrality of care as a tool of resistance to contemporary processes of dispossession.

Keywords : Dispossession; community; care; No Tav.
