Rev Cien Cult [online]. 2024, vol.28, n.52, pp.19-38.  Epub June 30, 2024. ISSN 2077-3323.  https://doi.org/10.35319/rcyc.2024521305.

In this article we will address various socio-environmental conflicts in Paine, the only completely rural commune in the metropolitan region, where Santiago, capital of Chile, is located, around agribusiness as the main extractive activity and cause of the water crisis in the area, between the years 2015 and 2020. For this, a qualitative investigation was carried out, using the ethnographic method and the techniques of participant observation and in-depth interviews with people belonging to socio-environmental organizations of the commune, from an analytical perspective located in the ecology critical politics where notions such as extractivism and territory are problematized.

Keywords : Extractivism; territory; water crisis; agribusiness; Paine; Chile.
