ALVAREZ CAZON, Carla Valeria and SALGUERO DUCHEN, Vania Maricel. The Complexity of the Graphic Identity of Indigenous Textiles in Chaco Tarijeno with Franciscan Heritage. Rev Cien Cult [online]. 2023, vol.27, n.50, pp.111-133. Epub June 30, 2023. ISSN 2077-3323.
In the Chaco of Tarija, Bolivia, the ethnic graphic identity of the indigenous peoples influenced by the Franciscan missions is little known. The objective of the present investigation is to analyze the graphic composition of textiles elaborated in the missions between the 19th and 20th centuries, considering traditional indigenous abstract geometry and the organic heritage of the missions. The information comes from interviews with native artisans, textile observation, and bibliographic review. Considering the historical and cultural context, a graphic identity was generated for the Guarani and Weenhayek Wichi ethnic groups of the Chaco tarijeño with Franciscan heritage, based on their geometry, composition, color, and rhythm.
