Abstract

ALEJO MAMANI, Guido Jesús. El Alto: the Reconfiguration of Imaginaries Through Aesthetics. Rev Cien Cult [online]. 2021, vol.25, n.47, pp.47-79. ISSN 2077-3323.  https://doi.org/10.35319/rcyc.2021471253.

In the cities in La Paz and El Alto, the urban “indigenous”, whose protagonism in the cities is not recent, is immersed in an intense social mobility that translates into the notoriety of social elites -the qamiri- with the consequent social stratification that is expressed in architecture. Beyond the “cholet”, multiple architectural aesthetics can be evidenced, which implies a formal diversity based on an architectural type oriented to the accumulation of economic and social capital. These expressions are brought together in a process of “popular self-modernization” in which the new urban imaginaries are expressed.

Keywords : aymara; cholet; El Alto; qamiri; architecture; self-modernization.
