VELASCO CAMACHO, Javier. Imaginary Geographies: The Multiple Spaces of the City in Walter Montenegro’s Narrative. Rev Cien Cult [online]. 2019, vol.23, n.43, pp.9-25. ISSN 2077-3323.

In 1947, Walter Montenegro (1912-1991) published his second collection of short stories: Los últimos. Montenegro is interested in the textual construction of the city, and he describes the process of social disconnections happening in groups without common purpose that he calls “últimos” (the last ones). The modality of this construction is genuinely avant-garde and makes Los últimos an unrepeatable work: the short stories construct the image of the city as a geography of relations, places and simultaneous presences that are articulated in the spatial logic proposed by Montenegro´s narrative. Thus, in the three stories I analyze, this article develops the multiple textual spaces within the city described by Walter Montenegro.

Palavras-chave : Los últimos; Walter Montenegro; Bolivian narrative.
