Abstract

VAN DEN BERG, Hans. The concept of friendship in San Augustine: from youth friends towards the spirituality of friendship. Rev Cien Cult [online]. 2016, vol.20, n.36, pp.193-212. ISSN 2077-3323.

This article goes through the concept of friendship St Augustine had. Although St Augustine never wrote a book on this exclusive theme, he did talk about it and cultivated important relationships along his life, along his spiritual and religious path. The author considers two essential St. Augustine friendships and then he examines the definition he gives, the foundations, the qualities and the fruits of friendship he postulates in order to argue that both, his concepts and his personal experiences on friendship were deeply influenced by Cicero. As to finally propose that St. Augustine christianized Cicero's concept of friendship.
