Abstract

INCH, Marcela. Gunnar Mendoza in the National Archive and Library: Notes towards a Study. Rev Cien Cult [online]. 2014, vol.18, n.33, pp.165-181. ISSN 2077-3323.

The article describes, in a chronological order, the beginning and development of the National Archive and Library in Bolivia, significantly through the work of Gunnar Mendoza, who was at the head of this institutions along several decades. The author starts with the origins in the XIXth century when private libraries and documents were incorporated and when the first state regulations addressed to preserve the national documentary heritage were issued. Then she goes in details on Gunnar Mendoza efforts to equip them with a proper budget and to classify the heritage under criteria corresponding to a modern repository. She refers to the competence conflict arose between the ABNB (National Archive and Library) and the institution in charge of the Legal Deposit. The article closes up showing Mendoza's integrity when he acted in a well-known case of heritage traficc timely and efficiently.
