Abstract
CALATAYUD CRIALES, Oswaldo and USNAYO, Juan Carlos. Snapshots of oblivion. From iconic glances to reading photography. Rev Cien Cult [online]. 2014, vol.18, n.33, pp.09-37. ISSN 2077-3323.
This approach to photography in Bolivia through five fundamental instants of our late history (The Chaco war, 1935, the National Revolution, 1952, Che Guevara's death, 1967, the miners relocalization, 1985, and Black October, 2003) is aimed to understand the pathways undertaken by still image art in Bolivia. It is shown that it goes from the elemental representation of landscapes and its people registered by cameras of the flrst photographers visiting these lands to the profound reading of main historical events registered in the past half century. From their documentary nature, these pictures can weave our imaginative memory against a widely encouraged culture in Bolivia: forgetfulness.
Keywords : Iconic look; snapshots; identity; social portrait; photographic reading.
