Abstract

MANSILLA, H. C. F.. Emergency of the intellectuals in Bolivia: Alcides Arguedas seen by Salvador Romero. Rev Cien Cult [online]. 2013, vol.17, n.31, pp.9-19. ISSN 2077-3323.

The author analyses Salvador Romero's research proposal on the formation of the first intellectuals in Bolivia, at the beginning of the XXth century. Romero's proposal had been developed through different sociological works, which are reviewed by Mansilla pointing out the central issues: how does Bolivian society assessed its first intellectuals; which were the ties or connections of these first intellectuals with international cultural centers; which their political involvements; and how did the institutional scenery, where this intellectuals acted, was configured. All these points are dealt with around Alcides Arguedas, considered the central figure of this first generation of intellectuals. Moreover, the author projects some of these considerations to the subsequent evolution, along the twentieth century, of intellectuals of diíferent ideologies.
