Abstract

CASTRO RIVEROS, Alan. Persistence of the sense: an approximation to Witold Gombrowicz, Cosmos . Rev Cien Cult [online]. 2010, n.25, pp.73-89. ISSN 2077-3323.

Considering the direct dialogue Cosmos brings about with the structure and resources of the detective genre, this paper insist on a similarity and a difference The similarity dealt with is the intent of organizing a chaos, while the difference is how to do it. As the enigma story settles “proofs” in order to solve a puzzle,Cosmos lists “proofs” that are quarrelsome insignificant, not intended to solve mystery but, to explore that which, having a non comprehensible image, perturbs, enchants and reproduces. Focusing in a series of hangings occurring in the novel, and acknowledging Gombrowicz used to refer to Cosmos as “a shaping of reality novel”, this paper inquires on the production of sense related to the act of literary creation, on the conception of reality, the conception of reality as an event, and on the power generating details apparently non significant carrying the trace ofhuman work forgotten on the thing persisting and making the narration a non retainable river.

Keywords : Polish literature; Argentinian literature; Witold Gombrowicz; production of sense; detective novel.
