The article relates the theoretical and practical explorations of western psychoanalysis as a way of understanding the reading of coca leaves. In the current Andean culture, reading coca leaves is a practice related to addressing the need of relief to the social and cultural pressures of a globalized world, which is standardizing local and traditional cultures.
