In the vast majority of countries in South America, the human resources involved in health systems are only medical professionals, bioanalysts, nurses, pharmacists, etc., While other professionals such as managers, administrators, engineers are only casual and their presence influences the development of the system. We would say that even in our countries traditionally medical-care institutions have been planned and managed exclusively by medical professionals, who have been forced to assume the role that correspond to other professionals because of the lack of specialized human resources capable of assuming such functions. However, each day in the field of medical technologies, a major breakthrough, and thus are more sophisticated equipment and expensive, limiting medical professionals in their need to keep pace with these changes. Often in the development of these technologies are used achievements in research of technical sciences and exact sciences, as its operating principles, in many cases, are beyond the scope of professional science life, who are only users. It is important to clarify that it is not the sophistication of some equipment which justifies the presence of professionals in the medical sciences, but also the diversity of technologies, their use, cost-benefit studies, training medical personnel and paramedical act as operator, the preparation of technicians for the maintenance, calibration of equipment (not including the design of new equipment and techniques), and in particular the specialized management of technology in hospitals, so that the institution the quality level that society demands and expects. This is what determines without extension or delay the immediate involvement of professionals in the technical sciences and accurate health systems in Bolivia and demand for specialized training of future professional careers as Biomedical Engineering. For all this is that they wanted to make a brief explanation of the scope of the School of Biomedical Engineering, which should be incorporated in our environment.
