POTES, Micaela Victoria y REZZA, Carola. Perfectionism and consumption of Fitspiration content: A mixed Study on female Field Hockey players. Ajayu [online]. 2025, vol.23, n.1, pp.83-102. Epub 28-Mar-2025. ISSN 2077-2161. https://doi.org/10.35319/ajayu.231263.
Perfectionism is a common characteristic among athletes. In a cultural context crossed by social networks, fitspiration accounts and fitfluencers emerge, which can be a source of inspiration or pressure for athletes. The present research aimed to explore the relationship between perfectionism and the consumption of fitspiration content on Instagram in Argentine female field hockey players between 18 and 25 years old. A mixed study was carried out, with a non-experimental, cross-sectional design and with a descriptive, exploratory and correlational scope. In a sample of 101 participants, an ad-hoc questionnaire, the Almost Perfect Scale-Revised (APS-R), was administered and semi-structured interviews were conducted. In conclusion, it was observed that 40.6% of the participants have a perfectionist profile, 67.5% consume fitspiration content on Instagram and 45.6% report accessing said content frequently. A positive correlation was found between the perfectionist profile and the consumption of this content, but it was not significant. The qualitative analysis allows us to observe that looking and feeling better is the main motivation of young women to consume fitspiration content, although they recognize that inspiration can become a pressure that could trigger eating disorders.
