REYES CASTILLO, Gabriela; GUZMAN TOLEDO, Rosa María; ROJAS SOLIS, José Luis  y  FRAGOSO LUZURIAGA, Rocío. Protective factors against academic stress, anxiety and depression in college students: A post-confinement research. Ajayu [online]. 2025, vol.23, n.1, pp.19-40.  Epub 28-Mar-2025. In the post-pandemic context, university students may have been exposed to stressful events that can generate symptoms of anxiety and depression; therefore, the objective of this research was to explore and analyze the presence of academic stress, anxiety and depression, as well as the relationship of these phenomena with protective factors such as social support, academic self-efficacy and resilience in university students during the post-confinement period. A quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, cross-sectional study was conducted with exploratory, descriptive and correlational scopes. The SISCO SV-21 academic stress inventory, the depression, anxiety and stress scale (DASS-21), the multidimensional scale of perceived social support, the scale of perceived self-efficacy specific to academic situations and the Connor-Davidson resilience scale (CD-RISC-10) were used. A total of 468 Mexican university students between 18 and 54 years of age participated. The results showed a greater presence of symptoms of academic stress, anxiety and depression in women. Inverse correlations were detected in both sexes between academic self-efficacy and symptoms of academic stress, anxiety and depression, as well as a negative correlation between resilience and depression, and between family support and depression and anxiety. It would be pertinent for higher education institutions to favor the prevention of these phenomena through the strengthening of various protective factors for coping with them, considering the different characteristics and contexts in which college students are immersed, especially after such a long period of confinement due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
