Abstract
HERMIDA, Paula Daniela et al. QUALITY OF LIFE AND DEPRESSION IN RETIRED OLDER ADULTS. A COMPARATIVE STUDY BY GENDER. Ajayu [online]. 2024, vol.22, n.2, pp.200-216. Epub Aug 31, 2024. ISSN 2077-2161. https://doi.org/10.35319/ajayu.222264.
The present work proposes to analyze the intersection of the variables quality of life and depression, depending on gender, in a population of retired older adults. Through a non-experimental quantitative research, with a descriptive, comparative and correlational, cross-sectional scope, a study was carried out on 242 adults over 60 years (121 men and 121 women), retirees and residents in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA), Argentine Republic. The analysis of the data carried out showed low levels of depression and good values in relation to the quality of life of the participants. On the other hand, it is observed that the main trend of the findings maintains that high levels of quality of life are associated with low levels of depression and, in the comparison by gender, there are statistically significant differences in the levels of quality of life in favor of women. The results are discussed under the concept of social determinants of health, from which is pointed out the need to rethink old age and the variables that go through the experiences of older adults, in order to promote their well-being.
