Resumen

GONZALEZ-MONZON, Alejandra  y  GARCIA, Felipe E.. INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE, FAMILY OF ORIGIN AND COPING STRATEGIES IN PARAGUAYAN ADULTS. Ajayu [online]. 2024, vol.22, n.2, pp.181-199.  Epub 31-Ago-2024. ISSN 2077-2161.  https://doi.org/10.35319/ajayu.222265.

The aim of this research was to explore the relationship between the types of violence that men and women perceive by their partner, the coping strategies that they deploy in that situation and the cohesion and adaptability that each of the members of the couple remembers having lived in their respective families of origin. The sample consisted of 299 people (61.5% woman) between 22 and 64 years old, who reside in Paraguay and maintain at least one year of relationship. As for the data collection technique, the FACES III, CUVINO R and Brief COPE 28 instruments were used. Low averages were observed in the different dimensions of violence. The direct predictors of violence in the couple are relief, self-distraction, religion and denial; the inverse predictors of violence in the couple are the search for emotional support, sex-affective exclusivity. On the other hand, there is no relationship between violence and the adaptability of the family of origin, nor in terms of sex, marital status, number of children, time of relationship or coexistence. These results will make visible the occurrence of two-way partner violence and unidirectional violence, exclusively, both from man to woman and from woman to man in order to propose more effective interventions.
