The present study explored the potentialities of the Feel & Think (F & T) scale modified by Garton & Gringart (2005), to measure empathy in Bolivian children between 8 and 12 years old. The adapted instrument included two components and 12 items (6 for affective empathy and 6 for cognitive empathy). The data were tested through reliability assessments, divergent validity, concurrent validity and construct validity through Principal Component Analysis and through Confirmatory Factor Analysis. The results showed a likelihood somewhat diminished, although with significant relationships between items; an adequate divergent validity obtained when comparing boys and girls, a significant concurrent validity and a construct validity confirming two components (‘Feel Worry’ and ‘Think to Help’). Likewise, the Confirmatory Factor Analysis showed acceptable values in almost all model’s adjustment indicators. Finally, the relevance of conventional systems for measuring children's empathy and the convenience of innovation in the subject were discussed.
