Abstract

MACHICAO MORALES, Alejandra  and  PINTO TAPIA, Bismarck. HYPNOSIS AS A THERAPEUTIC TOOL APPLIED TO A CASE OF ORNITOPHOBIA. Ajayu [online]. 2020, vol.18, n.1, pp.121-151. ISSN 2077-2161.

Specific phobias are one of the most common disorders in society, with a high cumulative prevalence of 26.9% between the ages of 20 and 50 (Kessler, Magee et al., 1996). In addition, 70% of phobic are women (Curtis et al., 1998). Only a minority of patients seek treatment in their lives due to fear of exposure to the phobic object., (Wardenaar, 2017). Research showed that up to 59.2% of patients reported interference with their daily lives. (Depla, 2008). The high imaginary cognitive component related to specific phobias gives way to the use of a therapeutic tool such as hypnosis, making possible the treatment of systematic desensitization based mainly on the use of imagery. The intervention was performed on a 22-year-old woman diagnosed with pigeon phobia (Ornithophobia) in which the level of suggestibility was previously assessed from the Gonzalez suggestibility inventory. The steps of systematic desensitization with hypnosis were followed. First, a hierarchy of fears was made, then a baseline was made from the use of an Oximeter to measure the heart rate, a Pre and Post test self-report based on the Specific Phobias (FSS-122) questionnaire in the Spanish adaptation Matezans 2012. We continued to conduct 4 hypnosis sessions based on the hierarchy of fears. The results of the analysis of the binomial test in relation to the changes obtained in the heart rate before and after the intervention are shown to be significant, which are also below the projected trend line of the baseline. In relation to the pre and post test self report, from the analysis of the binomial test it was observed that the changes were significant.

Keywords : Hypnosis; heart rate; phobia; systematic desensitization.
