Abstract

FERNANDEZ DA LAMA, Rocío Giselle. CURRENT PROBLEMS OF THE HIGHER EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM: ANALYSIS FROM THE LEARNING STYLES. Ajayu [online]. 2020, vol.18, n.1, pp.78-101. ISSN 2077-2161.

The purpose of this study is to assess the extent to which the theory of learning styles allows addressing and understanding the different problems manifested by university students in the academic system, namely, poor academic performance, delays in completing studies, and career change. A non-experimental, descriptive-correlational, and differences between groups was conducted. 215 university students (80% women) between 18 and 35 years old participated (Mean = 23.30, SD = 3.73), selected by a simple sampling. The Honey-Alonso Learning Styles Questionnaire and a sociodemographic and academic data survey were administered. The results indicate differences in most of the styles depending on the problem being evaluated, which provides useful information for a teaching action from which strategies and methodologies can be developed in order to improve student performance and the permanence of students in the system.

Keywords : learning styles; academic performance; university students.
