Abstract

GONZALEZ-ALBA, Blas; CORTES-GONZALEZ, Pablo  and  MANAS-OLMO, Moisés. THE DIAGNOSIS OF ASPERGER'S SYNDROME IN THE DSM-5. Ajayu [online]. 2019, vol.17, n.2, pp.332-353. ISSN 2077-2161.

The purpose of this theoretical study is to review the most relevant bibliography in the clinical and educational field about Asperger syndrome with the purpose of reopen the debate about its inclusion in the DSM-5 considering it a point within the TEA continuum. The Ebsco Host database has been used, 48 articles have been analyzed in English and 23 in Spanish, 15 web pages and 17 books in the field of psychology, psychiatry and education have been reviewed. The literature reviewed reflects the benefit of the diagnosis of Asperger's syndrome as opposed to that of "mild" ASD, since it minimizes the appearance of depressive, anxiety or stressors as a result of a more comprehensive diagnosis and improves communication among professionals. Advocating for the diagnostic independence of Asperger syndrome is the first step in the development of a syndromic diagnosis.
