Abstract
MENDOZA GUTIERREZ, Lorena et al. CAUSES AND CONSEQUENCES OF THE DATING VIOLENCE: A LOOK AT YOUNG UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN THE CITY OF TARIJA, BOLIVIA. Ajayu [online]. 2019, vol.17, n.2, pp.283-316. ISSN 2077-2161.
Bolivia is the fourth country in Latin America with the highest rate (24.6%) of dating violence among young people (Rubio-Garay et al., 2017), as well as 51.9% of single women of 15 years or more experienced an episode of violence in the course of their relationship with their lover or boyfriend (INE, 2016), in this sense, the objective of this research is to know the perception of university students in the city of Tarija with respect to to the causes and consequences of violence in the stage of courtship to contribute to the generation of actions and tactics of prevention and attention in violence adapted to the context. For this, a survey applied to 770 university students was used. Descriptive analyzes and bivariate association models were performed. The results show that the main cause of violence is jealousy, where the man is the most violent and the woman most affected, however, there is a significant percentage of university students who recognize that both men and women exercise violence (variable which is associated with sex and age) and both are affected (variable that is associated with sex, the type of family in which he lives and the relationship between parents during childhood). Regarding the consequences were identified: low self-esteem and depression as the main ones, where age and being or having had a relationship of courtship shows different perceptions of who never had a relationship. Therefore, more studies at the departmental level are required, which identify victimization, mutual violence, and the influence of independent variables to address this problem from a systemic approach.
