The present study aims to describe the Academic Burnout Syndrome in a sample of university students from the city of Arica. The sample was constituted of 217 students, of which 73.3% are women and 26.7% are men, coming from the careers of Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychology and Kinesiology. The instrument used was the Maslach Burnout Inventory adapted to the academic population. The design of the present investigation is a quantitative cohort, ex post facto retrospective, of transversal character and correlational descriptive scope. The results showed that Emotional Intelligence works as a moderating factor when preventing the appearance of Academic Burnout Syndrome and Perceived Stress. In such a way that, by intervening the Emotional Intelligence, the students could reduce the symptoms of Stress and Burnout and strengthen the emotional bonding, energy and motivation in front of the activities and academic demands (Engagement).
