Resumen

RIVERO, Tarina  y  SCHULMEYER, Marion K.. THE IMPACT OF THE ENVIRONMENT IN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS: PERCEPTION OF THE RESTORATIVE EFFECT OF NATURAL SCENES AND URBAN SETTINGS. Ajayu [online]. 2018, vol.16, n.1, pp.150-171. ISSN 2077-2161.

The term restoration is a concept used to define the renewing impact that an environment has on people. In this study we compared the restorative effect (at a cognitive, emotional, behavioral and physiological level) of natural scenes and urban settings, expecting to find that natural scenery has a greater restorative effect than urban images. An intra - group quasi -experimental design was used. The restorative effect was measured with Han’s Short Revised Restoration Scale. In this research 150, 17 to 36 years old college students participated. They came from the five faculties of the Private University of Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Results show that natural scenes produce more restorative effect on people than urban scenes at a cognitive, emotional and behavioral level. It was also noted that vocational training is related to the cognitive dimension of the appreciation of the restorative effect of natural and urban images.

Palabras clave : restorative effect; restorative environment; environmental psychology; nature.
