Resumen

CRUZ FIERRO, Norma  y  GONZALEZ-RAMIREZ, Mónica T.. PERCEIVED STRESS AND FACTORS ASSOCIATED TO BRUXISM. A CASE REPORT OF A FAMILY. Ajayu [online]. 2017, vol.15, n.2, pp.133-152. ISSN 2077-2161.

The aim of this study is to analyze the variables stress, symptoms of anxiety and neuroticism traits, across two generations of a family that self-report symptoms of bruxism. Stress scores obtained vary between expected to low, the results show a positive and strong correlation between scales: perception of bruxism with stress (rs = .652), and the subscales of sleep bruxism (rs = .665), awake bruxism (rs = .568). And between stress and anxiety (r = .654), neuroticism trait with stress (r = .747, p = .021) and bruxism with neuroticism (rs = .250). These correlations are not significant due to the size of the sample. The score is similar between H5 (mother) and S1 (oldest son); E1 (father) with S2 (son), S3 (youngest son), and H3 (sister). As well as between H1, H2, and H4 (sisters). These results strengthen the association of self-reported bruxism with sensibility to psychological stress. While the damage caused by bruxism is related at the time of suffering and when clenching or grinding teeth, results obtained in this family show that the higher the perception of bruxism scores, the higher the scores of psychological variables are.

Palabras clave : Bruxism; stress; anxiety; neuroticism; case report of a family.
