Resumen

LUCERO M., Boris  y  MUNOZ-QUEZADA, María Teresa. STUDIES ON BLINDSIGHT: FUNDAMENTAL CONTRIBUTIONS ON NEUROSCIENCE AND CURRENT DEVELOPMENTS. Ajayu [online]. 2015, vol.13, n.1, pp.39-53. ISSN 2077-2161.

Blindsight is the phenomenon traditionally studied in patients with lesions in primary visual cortex (V1), who manage to discriminate visual stimuli even though are not aware of having perceived them. From a literature review, milestones of the development of studies on  blindsight are exposed as an important paradigm of neuroscience research, alongside their fundamental contributions, and their conceptual and methodological controversies. Also are discussed data emerging from recent research in the area, which poses an emphasis on explaining the phenomenon associated with its neuroanatomical correlates, with recurrent findings regarding the central role of the superior colliculus. It is concluded that the study of Blindsight as a paradigm of research is currently in an ongoing process of restatement, both methodological and conceptual.

Palabras clave : Primary visual cortex; awareness; unconscious perception; attention; superior colliculus.
