Resumen

INOSTROZA R., Carolina et al. INTER-RATER AGREEMENT IN THE USE OF KEYS TO INTERACTIVE PARENTING SCALE KIPS IN A SAMPLE OF CHILEAN MOTHERS-CHILDREN FROM 36 TO 71 MONTHS. Ajayu [online]. 2014, vol.12, n.1, pp.120-134. ISSN 2077-2161.

Introduction: KIPS is an observational instrument that allows assessing the quality of parental practices of both mothers and fathers of children from two to 71 month old. Study Aim: To evaluate inter-judges agreement and other psychometric properties. Method: A team of certified evaluators coded 30 recordings from games of mothers with their children. In pairs, videos were separately scored. Mothers also answered the Alabama Self-report Questionnaire.  Results: KIPS presents adequate indexes of both inter-judgment agreement and reliability. It showed an acceptable internal consistence and moderate negative convergence with inconsistent parental practices evaluated by means of a self-report. Conclusions: KIPS allows assessing in reliable way mother-children interactions. Training possibility by means of e-learning and application simplicity makes this scale into a viable alternative for the observational evaluation of parental practices in our context.
