MEDINA CATACORA, Mariana. FEMALE IDENTITY IN TALKS OF THE TEA GATHERING. Ajayu [online]. 2013, vol.11, n.2, pp.61-80. ISSN 2077-2161.

The tea gathering is considered a women's only soiree in the afternoon hours where tea is the main beverage. It also represents a meeting place and intimacy among women. For this reason, the present study sought to investigate how the tea party generated a space in which women through discourse, such as talking topics, represent and construct their identity. This research is focused on the descriptive qualitative basis. The technique used was the focus group. Women were selected of three generations since the female identity is a concept that varies from one generation to another. We worked with three groups, each of six women from three generations. The range of ages were twenty-five, fifty and seventy-five. The main results showed that the speech at such meetings allows women to signify and represent both the social structure as its own identity. It was also found that the soiree tea as a group allowed the identification of participants. The women shared group characteristics that determined and contributed to their sense of identity. Another finding was that the space of the tea gathering allowed women to develop a representation of social reality. It was also found that these meetings make it possible to satisfy emotional needs. Finally, the results show that the tea gathering generates an ideal interaction meeting enabling the development of female identity.
