Resumen

FERNANDEZ, Erik  y  RICO, Víctor Hugo. COGNITIVE DISSONANCE IN DANCERS WHO PARTICIPATED IN GRAN PODER 2008. Ajayu [online]. 2009, vol.7, n.2, pp.1-62. ISSN 2077-2161.

This research found that most of the subjects from the sample were found to be dissonant, for each category and in each of the sub samples, most is understood to be fifty one per cent and above for each case. The answers with the highest percentage as to why they danced in Gran Poder 2008 were faith, entertainment and both faith and entertainment among the people in the sample survey. For this reason these three sub samples were the focus of the analysis. There were no major differences in dissonance activation or in the use of reduction strategies regarding the gender variable. What calls the attention about the gender variable is that, according to the observations, women have higher percentages than men in dissonance activation conditions, in each and everyone of the subcategories, as well as in the three subsamples, faith, entertainment and faith-entertainment. In the other hand, it is exactly the opposite in dissonance reduction strategies, where the highest percentages are those of the male subjects in comparison of their female partners. According to these results it is safe to infer that although a lower percentage of male subjects fulfill some of the dissonance activation conditions in relation to their female partners, they can deal with their dissonant thoughts with ease, at least those referring to their participation in this festivity, by using in a higher percentage dissonance reduction strategies unlike women who use it less frequently. It became evident that as a matter of fact the amount of people who take part in this festivity looking for entertainment, meeting new people and others has increased considerably, but so has the dimension of this event in itself, and although the number of people who truly participate because of faith to el Señor del Gran Poder isn’t the same at it was before, it is still most of the dancers, which were a part of the biggest subsample, and who will surely pass this on to their next generations. It is because of this that this research will make the proportion of participant identified as dissonant as a result of the answers they gave, their dissonance activation conditions and the strategies they use to reduce the dissonance, be of public knowledge. This will allow the reader to reach a conclusion supporting a point of view whether it be against or in favor or even none of these about this festivity, and to better understand its context.

Palabras clave : cognitive dissonance; gender motivation; party.
