BURGOA TERCEROS, Rodrigo  e  VERA LA ROSA, Sofía. Impact of “Incendiary Laws” on Forestry and Agriculture in Bolivia: A Synthetic Control Analysis. rlde [online]. 2024, n.42, pp.77-105.  Epub 30-Dez-2024. ISSN 2074-4706.  https://doi.org/10.35319/lajed.202442544.

This document studies the impact of the so-called “incendiary laws” on forestry and agricultural areas in Bolivia. To do this, initially, a diagnosis of the situation in the mentioned fields is made, showing a constant decline in the forested area and an increase in the agricultural frontier. Subsequently, the laws enacted by the national government in the period 2013-2019 are analyzed, concluding their greater permissiveness towards fires. Based on the above, the synthetic control methodology is applied. A panel of 154 countries is used in the period 2001- 2021. It is found that the adopted regulations accelerated deforestation since 2016. Likewise, it was found that the impact was positive on the agricultural area since 2019.

Palavras-chave : Incendiary laws; forest area; agriculture; livestock; synthetic control.
