BOLANOS GAMARRA, Jorge Eduardo. Determinants of pesticide use among farmers in the Bolivian agricultural sector: an application of binary response models. rlde [online]. 2023, n.39, pp.109-147. Epub 30-Maio-2023. ISSN 2074-4706. https://doi.org/10.35319/lajed.202239281.
The study evaluates the factors that influence the probability that farmers use pesticide chemicals according to the 2015 Agricultural Survey (Bolivia). Statistical techniques of binary classification: Logit model and Probit model, are applied to a sample of 1607 individuals, which were selected by purposive sampling (complete cases). The results show that, at a statistical level, there is a statistically significant relationship between the probability of using pesticides and factors such as type of crop, the month of harvest, decisions on task assignment, information on climatological events and knowledge of Pachamama agricultural insurance. Therefore, it is concluded that the use of pesticides is associated with some of the factors considered in the 2015 Agricultural Survey.
