Resumen

FERNANDEZ, Bernardo X.. Music for Sustainable Development: The Bolivian Case. rlde [online]. 2021, n.36, pp.79-123. ISSN 2074-4706.

Despite the diversity and richness that characterizes Bolivian music, the general perception is that its music industry is incipient and suffers from great deficiencies that affect its ability to create and transcend within and outside the country´s borders. The lack of statistical data and baseline studies affect the ability to analyse its current situation and, hence, to offer recommendations to strengthen it. Through a novel quantitative and qualitative analysis, based on statistical data and relevant information from national and international sources, this study seeks to offer a more objective description of the pre-pandemic situation of the Bolivian music professional and the country´s music industry. Based upon this analysis, the study proposes the guidelines of a National Music for Development Plan in Bolivia, a useful instrument of public policy in this field, in a context where most countries around the world are making significant progress along the so-called “orange economy” and “creative industry” initiatives.

Palabras clave : music; development; creative industries; Bolivia.
