Resumen

VIDOVIC QUEREJAZU, Claudia Verónica. Female Entrepreneurship in Bolivia and Self-confidence. rlde [online]. 2021, n.36, pp.43-78. ISSN 2074-4706.

The study of female entrepreneurship in developing countries is relevant due its economic potential and impact on women’s empowerment. The literature review shows, in addition to the evolution of entrepreneurial activity led by women, the relevance of approaching its behavior from a psychosocial perspective. A perspective which while overpasses the dichotomy opportunity-necessity -underlines the incidence of self-confidence on such action. Applying this framework to the Bolivian case shows that entrepreneurial behavior is observed particularly among young women with certain economic support and with high levels of self-confidence. These psychological characteristic expresses determination and perseverance to achieve a goal and allows them to confront risk and uncertainty in highly competitive markets. Entrepreneurial self-confidence in Bolivian women is a potentiality that deserves better attention from public policy makers.

Palabras clave : entrepreneurship; psychological factors in decision making; economics of gender; Bolivia.
