Abstract

AGUADO QUINTERO, Luis Fernando; GIRON CRUZ, Luis Eduardo  and  SALAZAR SILVA, Fernando. Relación entre pobreza y educación urbanas en el Valle del Cauca. rlde [online]. 2006, n.7, pp.29-56. ISSN 2074-4706.

The intention of this work is to determine the relationship between urban education and poverty ¡n a Colombian department, and the process by which the benefits of education help to overeóme poverty. Structural models are used for this purpose. The results suggest that education and poverty feed off each other. Also, although the investment in human capital through education is a key factor in ¡mproving people's income, this alone is not sufficient to eradicate poverty, because the presence of a favourable macroeconomic ciimate is necessary, so that educated poor people may improve their standard of living through their income.
