Resumen

CHAVEZ-LIZARRAGA, Georgina Aurelia. Nanotechnology an alternative for wastewater treatment: Advances, Advantages and Disadvantages. J. Selva Andina Res. Soc. [online]. 2018, vol.9, n.1, pp.52-61. ISSN 2072-9294.

In the last years nanotechnology emerges as an interesting alternative for the design of water system treatments. The small size of the nanoparticles and the characteristics of the nanomaterials made huge the potential of this technology in this field. However, the limits of this technology should be considered, because even if there are toxicological studies, the true effect in humans, fauna and flora have not been yet studied in depth. The current review article introduces to the lecturer to know the importance of nanotechnology in tech environment care and gives the basic concepts of nanoscience, nanotechnology, how nanoparticles can be effectively used in wastewater treatment, remarking its usefulness in desalination systems. Later, there is a description of the properties of the nanomaterials used for the disinfection of water, in the development of membrane filtration systems describing their characteristics, is also described the use of nanoparticles in catalysis and photo catalysis systems. An overview of nanotechnology in water treatment at world level with advantages and disadvantages is provided. Finally there is brief review of the damaging effects of the nanoparticles and nanomaterials in aquatic ecosystems.

Palabras clave : Nanotechnology; nanoparticles; nanomaterials; wastewater treatment; membrane filtration; catalysis; photcatalysis.
